SOUNDS OF A 5G ORKNEY
As part of Cisco’s RuralFirst campaign, we wanted to demonstrate the potential of 5G connectivity in the UK’s most remote rural regions. So we collaborated with renowned composer Erland Cooper to create a soundscape that captures the essence of his native Orkney.
Using a network of first-of-their-kind 5G remote microphones planted around the islands, we were able to record the sounds of Orcadian nature, humanity and industry. These sounds were then streamed to Erland’s London studio continuously and in real time, where they were woven into his powerful new composition, ‘Tapestry’.
The track has been pressed onto vinyl, and premiered on BBC Radio 6.
